Content

The course provides an introduction into the simulation of mechanical effects and linear, non-linear, static, dynamic and Eigenfrequence analyses with the Structural Mechanics Module of the new COMSOL Multiphysics version 4. Current and future users of the software can benefit by learning essential mechanical modeling tools that will make their simulations more efficient.

The course is a mix lecture, demos and guided tutorials with lots of opportunities to discuss. We show you where how the new tools of COMSOL 4 can be used most efficiently in your field of application and encourage you to bring in your own questions and models. Basic familiarity with COMSOL or modeling in general is a sufficient prrequisite.

  • Starting from CAD: Importing or LiveLinking your geometry
  • Efficient Meshing Techniques
  • Linear and non-linear Analyse
  • Material Models
  • Contact and Friction
  • Multiphysics: Thermal expansion, piezoelectricity etc.

One day of training can work wonders - after the course you will be ready to start off with your own advanced models.

You coaches

Dr. Thierry Luthy
COMSOL Multiphysics GmbH, Zurich

Physicist Dr. Thierry Luthy first studied at the University of Neuchâtel in the field of superconducting materials. He then worked for two years at EMPA in various research areas, for example, the nondestructive testing of high-technology ceramics. In 2003 he completed his Ph.D. dissertation at the ETH Zürich in the field of composite materials. Since March 2006 Dr. Luthy has worked at the Zürich office of COMSOL.

Dr. Sven Friedel
COMSOL Multiphysics GmbH, Zurich

Dr. Sven Friedel is a physicist and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Leipzig (Germany) in geophysics, specializing in electromagnetic inverse problems applied to tomographic imaging. He also taught courses in, among other things, geomagnetics. For his research he focused on the simulation of electrical, fluidic, and thermal processes in volcanoes. After several years working as a postdoctoral researcher in the area of geotechnical engineering at the ETH in Zurich, in 2004 Dr. Friedel established COMSOL AB's branch office in Switzerland.
