Mimics and Comsol

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I am doing a medical project. I am using Mimics to generate the 3D model. In Mimics, I can export a comsol mesh file.

Thing is that I don't how to apply a physics to a mesh. Normally we apply the physics to a geometry.

Does anybody know how to do it?

Can I generate a geometry from the mesh? Or I can do the whole simulation process with the mesh only??

Thanks~~

Hi

in most "classical" FEM tools you define the mesh with the physcal properties thereby, and load the nodes with your BC's (boundary conditions).

In COMSOL, in contrary, you apply the physics and the BC's as well as the shape function on the "ENTITIES" that are (geomanalysed() à la 3.5 / "finished" V4) geometrical FEM items generated by analysing your geometrical OBJECTS (CAD items).

Thereafter you apply a mesh onto the Entities, the mesh being a geometrical representation of your "finite elements". the mesh inherite their physical propeties by the entities containing the, respectively the nodes from the entities they are touching.

This is very different nand if you are a "old" FEM specialist you need some "brain-wash" before learning how to use COMSOL correctly.

in your case you need to transform your imported mesh into a gemoetry (entities) this was possible in 3.5a, I'm not sure if its fully impleemnted in V4.0, I'm sure it will come, if not already there in V4.1

Good luck

Thanks for reply.

I have tried. I can't convert the mesh into geometry by using 4.0 and 4.0a. And I even try 4.1 pre-release trial version. It can't be done either.

Can anyone help me with this ?

What is the point of getting an interface with Mimics if I can't do anything with the "mesh" file from Mimics.

Thanks.
