Plane wave in RF module

I have been trying for a while to produce a plane wave using a custom transient waveform using the RF module with no success.

I have gone back to try to reproduce the 3-D gaussian beam example file to try to learn how to do it with no success. The downloaded file does not run successfully when I try to solve the system and I am not sure which changes to make.

How do you set up a transient RF plane-wave with custom waveform?

This is relatively straightforward (if I understand your question correctly). I've attached a very simple example with a 3D transient plane wave of a propagating Gaussian-enveloped (in time) sinusoidal pulse. Note that I specified the pulse as a background field, using the transient version of the EM wave formulation. I hope this helps you.

This is perfect. Thank you so much. I now have to try to get our custom waveform into the framework but this is exactly the sort of thing on which I was looking for some advice. Mainly my next problem is that the waveform type I want to put in is not an equation but a waveform input as a series of points as a customized shape. I don't think it should be too hard to get another waveform in the equation but I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again!

Hi, Robert,

I have met a similar problem in comsol3.5a. I would like to set up a gaussian-modulated sinusoidal plane wave, which will propagate through a 2-D grating. Could you help me with this? Thank you!
