Contact between Membrane and Soil

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I'm having a hard time describing transition from non-contact to contact in COMSOL. The following are my modeling steps:
1. borehole deforms under the boundary loading;
2. store the deformed geometry;
3. internal pressure forces membrane to expand against the deformed borehole wall.

At step 3, due to the gap between membrane and borehole wall, at first, they are not contacted, but under the internal pressure, membrane would touch the wall and push it outwards and reach equilbrium eventually. Someone told me this could be solved by Abaqus with its dynamic module, but I believe there will also be a solution in COMSOL.

I attached my model and the borehole was simplified into a quarter in it.

I appreciate much if someone could help me get through this.
Thanks.

Lang
