The Beam Envelope Method in the Wave Optics Module

 

When modeling electromagnetic waves in the COMSOL® software, the beam envelope method calculates the slowly varying electric field in large or long modeling domains. This method is faster and more efficient than the full-wave approach when modeling a wave that is propagating primarily in one direction. With the Wave Optics Module, an add-on to the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, you have the ability to model electromagnetic waves with the traditional full-wave approach, the beam envelope method, or both, depending on your application.
