PECM is a necessary extension to traditional ECM for some high-performance materials. Electrolyte flow in the inter-electrode gap (IEG) can be assisted using a magnetic field to allow higher currents, but this creates a magnetohydrodynamic flow. This paper presents a study of flow velocity in an IEG with a sinusoidal electric field within a magnetic field. EIS experiments use a 7075 aluminum anode in an NaNO3 electrolyte that showed the effects of magnetic field intensity and voltage frequency on cell current. Computational analysis showed the relation between the electromagnetic inputs and flow. By combining the experimental with the computational in a simulation the results of both are extended to show potential optimal conditions for magnetically assisted PECM.
