Modeling Ultrasound Acoustics for Biomedical Applications

September 9, 2025 2:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. EDT

Back to Events Calendar

Ultrasound plays a vital role in biomedical applications due to its safety, versatility, and cost-effectiveness. Its noninvasive nature enables clinicians and researchers to visualize and interact with internal tissues without surgery or ionizing radiation, making it ideal for a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic uses, such as real-time imaging, targeted drug delivery, and tumor ablation.

During this webinar, we will highlight the role of numerical modeling and simulation in advancing biomedical ultrasound technologies, covering topics such as acoustic wave propagation in complex tissues, transducer design, and modeling ultrasound–tissue interaction. We will discuss the features in the COMSOL Multiphysics® software and its add-on Acoustics Module that can be used for this type of modeling. In addition, we will show some models of real-world applications that will demonstrate how simulation is expanding the frontiers of biomedical ultrasound — including ultrasound imaging, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), and ultrasound-induced microstreaming for enhanced mixing in microfluidic devices.
