Modeling Flow:Multilayer planar circular spiral coil

Hello Multiphysics Team,

I am research assistant at New York University.
This is my first experience with Multiphysics-an FEM based modeling tool .

Application Detail: To model a multilayer planar circular spiral coil (as a receiving coil-2ndary )for biomedical implants.
Coil parameters: turns: 30 each layer, Outer diameter 20mm, frequency (any spot not -opert.band): 500Hz to 5Mhz

Desired electrical parameters: Quality factor, ac resistance, parasitic capacitance, self inductance,Mutual inductance
Effect considered: Skin effect, Proximity effect, displacement current

I'm regularly reading multiphysics tutorials and working with AC/DC library models (spiral Inductors).

Problem: 1).For the above application, which type of Physics will be suitable: AC/DC or RF and what study?
I want to plot Rac and Q factor over 500Hz to 5MHZ.....

2).Where can I find more details about setting and choosing boundary conditions(Any tut, ppt book, video, link)

3).I calculated Rac of given"spiral inductor" in AC/DC but I don't know how to plot Rac over frequency.
4).which model (2D or 3D one) for this app will be easier and accurate to sart with ?
I have already modeled Litz wire(8 strands) based multilayer coil in Matlab, but it is not accurate enough for Rac.(L and M are good).

Would you plz advise me about the issues reflected above.

Ramesh

Hey M.Patel,

I am trying to model 2 circular coils in 3D (each coil is just one layer) and want to calculate the self and mutual inductance but don't know how. all i can calculate is the magnetic field because i al still a beginner in Comsol. You said that you had good results for L and M, can you please help me with my problem?

Thanks in advance,

Jad TAKI
