Giving Furniture Testing a Leg Up

Mark Yeoman, Continuum Blue, UK

Chairs must meet quality standards, which requires lengthy and costly testing. To reduce the burden on manufacturers, a test house enlisted Continuum Blue to create a tool for clients to virtually test chair designs.

Continuum Blue used COMSOL Multiphysics® to create a model to predict a chair's response to a standard loading test. They used the Application Builder to convert the model into a user-friendly simulation app, which enables users to arrange entry fields, results tables, and buttons so manufacturers can test designs before prototyping. Continuum Blue intends to use COMSOL Server™ to deploy apps to clients worldwide.
