Optimizing Passenger Vehicle Design with Simulation Apps

Sitarameswara Sarma Akella, Mahindra, India

The fast-paced passenger vehicle design process at Mahindra, a multinational automotive manufacturer, demands efficient collaboration between manufacturing teams, design engineers, and computer-aided engineering (CAE) analysts. Validation of design changes to stabilizer bars, critical components in car suspension, and chassis involves time-consuming iterations back-and-forth between teams. To reduce the reliance on CAE analysts and cut back on iteration time, the analysts developed simulation apps with the COMSOL Multiphysics® software to let their colleagues verify stiffness distributions for stabilizer bar geometries and chassis designs. Deployed throughout the company via a local installation of the COMSOL Server™ product, these apps resulted in substantial reductions in design lead time and allowed designers to explore various configurations very early in the development phase.
