Adding a New Product with the License Manager
New products can be added to existing COMSOL Multiphysics® installations without reinstalling your existing products by changing to a new license file. Installations with FNL and CKL licenses require the License Manager. Additionally, installations on Linux® require the License Manager for all license types. This guide shows how to change the managed license and enable a new product to be installed in local COMSOL Multiphysics® installations.
If your installation does not require the license manager, refer to "Adding A New Product to CPU and NSL Licenses on Windows® and macOS".
FNL and CKL Licenses and All Licenses onLinux®
Step 1: Change the License in the License Manager
After receiving a new license, the license manager must be updated to enable the installation of the new product. Below, we offer some info on updating the license manager depending on your setup. To gain a deeper understanding of the update process, visit www.comsol.com/iog and refer to the section "Changing the License" under the "License Manager Installation" section for your operating system (Windows®, macOS, or Linux®).
Your sales representative can assist you with adding new products to your license. Find their contact information via your COMSOL Access account.
For a Network License (FNL/CKL)
If you have an FNL or CKL, ask the administrator of the license manager instance in your network to replace the license file used by the license manager, and then restart the license manager.
For NSL and CPU on Linux®
If you have an NSL or CPU license, you can replace the license file that your local license manager uses with the new license file, and then restart the license manager.
Step 2: Install Products with the COMSOL Installer
- Launch setup for your operating system.
- On Windows®, launch "Setup" from the COMSOL Launchers directory.
- On macOS, launch "COMSOL Setup" from the installation directory.
- On Linux®, launch the "Setup" script from the installation directory.
- Select a language for installation. On the following menu, select Add/Remove Products and Reinstall.

Select Add/Remove Products and Reinstall to select from the products made available by the new license via the License Manager.
- Select your new product(s) and if necessary specify the source of the files to be installed. The process closely mimics "How to Install COMSOL Multiphysics®".
If you are prompted to specify a source to install the new products from, you have two choices.- "Install from internet" will automatically download and install the files from the internet.
- "Install from local DVD" will use local files on physical media, including USB drives.

The Source page prompts the user to select where the files will be installed from.
See the offline installer for more information.
