Senior Systems Administrator

COMSOL, Inc. is seeking a full-time Senior Systems Administrator with DevOps skills to join our IT team in our Burlington, MA office. The candidate should be an IT jack of all trades willing to provide level 2 and 3 support to both IT staff and our internal customers in the US and remote (global) offices, when needed. The daily routine will consist of systems administration, user requests, system builds as well as various projects and tasks. All duties are focused around best practices and overall improvement of the current infrastructure. Proven experience in the system administration field is required. The ideal candidate should be highly proficient in documenting her/his work as well as having excellent project and time management expertise. This is an in-office position and will report to the Global IT Director.

Your role will be integral to supporting engineers, developers and back office staff by troubleshooting day-to-day problems, maintaining business applications, and ensuring a secure and highly available systems environment. In-scope technologies for the Senior System Administrator include but are not limited to Windows/AD, Linux, Nutanix virtualization environments, storage, UCaaS, Atlassian Confluence and JIRA and Dell server hardware as well as unified endpoint management solutions. The management of these systems requires a familiarity with local and global standards and requirements.

A successful candidate should be customer service oriented, attentive to detail, self-motivated and work well in teams. Flexibility in approach to finding solutions, the ability to understand and act on the user/customer and company needs and priorities, and learn new technologies quickly are some of the qualities a successful candidate will have. You will also need to be willing to respond to occasional off-hours outages and take part in subsequent service restoration efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Jack of all trades with focus around Windows, Linux, customer support and Infrastructure management.
  • Willing to always help out our users and customers when needed.
  • Provide 2nd level internal system support for the US and some international offices, consisting of various operating systems such as Windows, Mac and Linux.
  • Various projects based on infrastructure or enterprise software/service improvements.
  • Maintain patch management across all corporate managed systems both server and endpoint.
  • Windows system builds imaging and automation.
  • Manage system alerts and notifications appropriately, and respond accordingly through service tickets.
  • Knowledge of security and security best practices such as firewalls, IPsec and network infrastructure methodologies are a plus.
  • Experience with SEIM & monitoring solutions (implementation/configuration).

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Dell server infrastructure by updating firmware, BIOS, iDRAC, and power management.
  • Maintain and update global UCaaS systems.
  • Fast turnaround of customer requests.
  • Communication with users as required: keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Assist and mentor help desk.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Global IT Director or senior staff.

Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of experience in Linux Systems Administration.
  • Scripting: Bash, Python, Perl a plus.
  • Active Directory design and methodologies and best practices.
  • 4-6 years of Windows experience, specifically with Windows Server and Active Directory design and implementation.
  • Experience with MySQL, LAMP/LEMP stack a plus as well as Docker, Puppet or other automation methods.
  • Analytical/technical mindset with willingness to think outside the box for the solution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, teamwork, and issue resolution.
  • Experience with Commvault backup systems a plus.
  • Accountable, with a problem-solving mindset, highly self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Documentation and detail oriented with attention to time management, processes and procedures.
  • Keeping the company’s directives and policies in tact with a security mindset.
  • Superior organizational skills with attention to detail, including time management skills.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent training such as RHCE, CompTIA (+) advanced training, MCSE.
