Automatically aborting meshing when it takes to long

Hi,
I'm using Matlab to do a large series (30k+) of simulations in Comsol 4.1. The geometries are automatically generated, meshed and simulated.

For some geometries Comsol has a lot of problems meshing and it takes ages (it doesn't finish, even after several hours) while, if everything goes right, the simulation (including meshing) takes about 10-20 seconds. If I use a finer mesh, the meshing often works well, however, it also increases the simulation time of the other geometries which is a lot of time if it's repeated 30k times.

So now I'm looking for a way to specify a time-out time for a simulation. So basically I want to use a course mesh, try meshing and if it takes to long (say longer then 300 sec), it cancels and tries again with a finer mesh.

Is there a possibility to do this using Comsol settings/commands and/or Matlab code?

Kind regards,
Jarno
