creating a hollow box

hi ,
i am trying to build a hollow box ,can anyone tell me how i can do that?
and what is the exact differance between solid and face style?

Hi

If you are in 3D, make two boxes (cubes) one within the other and substract them this should make a hollow box with the wall thicknss depending on the relative izes of your cubes/boxes, no ?
