3-D Meshing Help

Good Afternoon,
I am having some trouble trying to mesh my current geometry. In the geometry, there are many relatively thin plates, where I have tried to do a free triangular mesh to keep the number of elements low. I am wondering what other methods I should try to mesh this geometry, I have also tried a swept mesh but I am not thoroughly sure what this does. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. The automated meshing is taking way too long and hoping for a quicker mesh generation sequence.

This is a relatively simple case, an aluminum assembly immersed in water. I plan on adding some heat sources to various plates, but I am curious to why a simple geometry is giving me meshing problems...

1. in geometry, create a box "a" that includes all of the plates and water between them
2. mesh the top of box "a" with quad mesh
3. apply swept mesh to box "a"
4. convert the boundaries of box "a" to triangles
5. mesh the rest with tetrahedral

Would this be done with inserting a block, then creating a union. Sorry I am fairly new with COMSOL.
