time discrete solver

I am using comsol 4.2, and I would like to use the time discrete solver, I just can not find a simple example of how to write correctly an expression. Do I have to write all my equations by myself using the operator prev and bdf?
Can I start from an empty study and add a time discrete solver or do I need to first define a time dependent solver and replace it?
If anyone has a simple example file, I would be happy to get it, or if anyone could indicate in the library which one uses the time discrete solver (I could check them all but...) .
