COMSOL, Inc. is seeking a full-time web experience designer to join our Marketing department onsite in Burlington, MA.
Job Description
In this role, you will be responsible for shaping and evolving the user’s experience through design on COMSOL’s website and internal platforms. Projects may include designing new interfaces that simplify complex technical content, improving existing systems, enhancing usability, and supporting marketing initiatives, product understanding, and internal workflows.
We produce all of our web and marketing experiences in-house — emphasizing a purpose-drive philosophy, clarity, and usability. Success in this role is evaluated based on meeting project goals, building effective interfaces for long-term success, and creating on brand experiences.
This is an in-office position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Translate business and functional requirements into effective user experiences
- Develop a deep understanding of existing systems, pages, and tools to assist in maintenance, improvements, and redesigns
- Create and iteratively refine design solutions through wireframes, then turning them into code
- Take highly technical and scientific content and present it in a clean and easy-to-understand manner
- Build HTML emails using a responsive template system
- Write detailed documentation for project-related tasks, research and analysis outcomes, test results, and tools developed internally
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and technologies
- Collaborate cross-functionally with graphic designers, content writers, marketing stakeholders, and back-end developers, including:
- Partnering with graphic designers to ensure consistent branding across media and create detailed style guides
- Collective brainstorming, incorporating feedback and creative direction into a final product
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant web design or front-end development experience
- Exceptional visual design skills and a strong understanding of UX/UI design principles
- Ability to create clean wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
- Experience working with the Bootstrap framework
- Proficiency writing HTML and CSS/LESS/SASS, creating responsive designs, and developing cross-client compatible HTML emails
- Effective at communicating conceptual ideas and design decisions with stakeholders and back-end developers
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues effectively
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Current eligibility to work in the U.S.; no sponsorship for employment-based visas will be offered for this position
Helpful Qualifications
- Proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of version control
- Ability to read and understand JavaScript code
- Experience working with a PHP-based back-end
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and implementation
- Experience working on corporate or high-volume websites
- Experience working with the BEM methodology for CSS
