Inertial measurement units (IMUs) are widely used across a broad range of applications, including vehicle navigation, smartphone motion tracking, camera stabilization, and gaming. These devices typically integrate multiple accelerometers and gyroscopes aligned along different axes in space for measuring the inertial and rotational forces acting on a body, with integrated electronics for signal processing and data output. As demand grows for more compact, cost-effective, and higher-performance IMUs, accurate modeling and simulation of the underlying accelerometers and gyroscopes becomes critical. Such simulations enable designers to predict device behavior more reliably, reduce development time and cost, and improve manufacturability and overall system performance.

In this webinar, we will discuss how the COMSOL Multiphysics® software can be used to model MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes. The presentation will include a live demonstration that couples electrostatics and structural mechanics physics in an accelerometer design.
