Traveling Wave Thermoacoustic Engine

Application ID: 120401

The models simulate the working mechanism of traveling wave thermoacoustic engines. Similary to the standing wave engines, the traveling wave engines make use of the coupling between the fluid motion and the temperature change experienced by the fluid to generate acoustic energy. However, due to the phase difference of the velocity and the pressure, the traveling wave engines have a potential to realize better performance than the standing wave engines.

Two model files are attached to this post: model A whose geometry is a simple loop and model B which was made to imitate an experimental setup. The computational cost of model A is small so each study only takes 1.5 minutes. Model B takes 25-30 minutes to finish, and is in good agreement with the original experimental data.
