Turbocharger Supported on Floating Ring Bearings

Application ID: 67811

In this model, a turbocharger supported on two floating ring bearings is studied. The film forces on the ring cause it to rotate within the bearing. In steady state, the ring rotates at a constant angular speed and the torque on the ring due to the inner and outer films are balanced.

The Beam Rotor interface is used to model the turbocharger rotor which is coupled with the floating ring bearing through multiphysics couplings. The inner and outer films in the floating ring bearings are connected through six channels in the ring.

The results include stress in the rotor, pressure distribution in the bearing, speed variation of the ring, total moment on the ring, and flow rate through ring channels.
