Mass and Heat Transport in an Oxygen Mask

Application ID: 129161

When designing oxygen masks for delivering respiratory support to patients via BiPAP and CPAP, multiphysics modeling helps visualize the flow pattern inside the mask for a given design. From there, it is possible to estimate oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide accumulation, and temperature in the mask to create a design that conserves oxygen by avoiding CO2 buildup without completely flushing the mask with each breath cycle.

This example model features a transient model to account for a complete respiratory cycle and estimates the flow field, composition, and temperature in the mask.
