Loudspeaker design is a challenging task. The objective is to achieve high sound quality while satisfying manufacturing and operational constraints. Sound quality depends on many factors, including the ability to control, damp, and shift diaphragm resonances and to control diaphragm breakup.

In this example, the frequency responses of a dome tweeter with different diaphragm materials are compared. Composite diaphragm materials produce a smoother frequency response than conventional materials such as titanium. The ability of composites to break symmetries in the mode shapes and shift resonances can improve the frequency response of a dome tweeter.
